Brief 5: Creating a Pattern

Brief 5: Creating Patterns

For this brief we were asked prior to the session that we draw out a double page for each of these subjects in our sketchbooks: Nature, Sports, Food, and Transport. After doing this task in preparation we then had to scan our drawings that we wanted to use into photoshop so that we could then go on to experiment in creating our repeated patterns. These are a few scans of my drawings below.

After scanning in my images and isolating them separately on photoshop I began to experiment first with my paintings of nature using the effect of predator and prey in almost a harmonic image before I then created it into a pattern.

As a final image I was very happy with how this turned out, with how the pattern looks almost like a wallpaper from the design to the overall look as you can see each individual repeated square which gives the image a child-like feel that I believe gives it a brighter mood overall as a pattern.

Here are a few other patterns that I created as well as this one during the session, showing the development leading towards the final result of each pattern.
