Brief 6: Making a GIF

Brief 6: Making a GIF

In preparation for this session we were asked to draw a selection of drawings in our sketchbook related to movement, out of the many examples we were given i chose to focus on the movement of water. looking at examples of running taps or water flowing down a river I began to sketch out the various different aspects of movement in how water flows. Trying to capture each movement in order to create a Gif with my drawings.

After doing this I then began to go through the process of turning my drawings into a GIF, moving each individual drawing into a new layer and matching the sizes of the other drawings in the other layers so they aren't all different sizes.
Above is my first attempt at a GIF, although the sketches themselves make the tap look misshapen overall I am pleased with this as my first rough attempt before I moved on to more complicated versions of this rough sketch. Adding more dimension to it as a whole.

Brief 5: Creating a Pattern

Brief 5: Creating Patterns

For this brief we were asked prior to the session that we draw out a double page for each of these subjects in our sketchbooks: Nature, Sports, Food, and Transport. After doing this task in preparation we then had to scan our drawings that we wanted to use into photoshop so that we could then go on to experiment in creating our repeated patterns. These are a few scans of my drawings below.

After scanning in my images and isolating them separately on photoshop I began to experiment first with my paintings of nature using the effect of predator and prey in almost a harmonic image before I then created it into a pattern.

As a final image I was very happy with how this turned out, with how the pattern looks almost like a wallpaper from the design to the overall look as you can see each individual repeated square which gives the image a child-like feel that I believe gives it a brighter mood overall as a pattern.

Here are a few other patterns that I created as well as this one during the session, showing the development leading towards the final result of each pattern.

Brief 4: Drawing and Painting in Photoshop

In preparation for this session, we were asked to go on a walk around Worcester and take photographs and sketch any form of architecture that we found interesting. These photographs could include anything from the various structures both old and new around Worcester as you can see in my own photographs below i attempted to capture both old and new structures within my images to create a wide range in choice when it came to my digital paintings.

As well as taking photographs of the various sights around town, I also started to sketch a few of the main structures that caught my eye. This then resulted in this scan of my sketch of part of a detailed pilar supporting the nightclub 'Tramps". In this sketch I attempted to capture the changes in shadow by using bold colours hoping to help influence me in my digital paintings later on.

During the development of this painting I was very pleased with how I handled using a graphics tablet for the first time, finding it hard at first as I began to experiment with the different brushes and testing out how I was going to layer up each colour for the image. Despite this I was very pleased with how my final image looks.

After making the various changes to my work I found that I was happy with how I presented my final image. Especially with how the contrasting colours that were although, quite bold and very different from the original image worked really well as a whole. Although the brush I used created a very blurry effect I found this made it looks very ominous without the original line layer form my drawing.
